The case for a simpler Business Process Approach

Since 1994 Harvard Computing Group (HCG) has been dedicated to simplifying the presentation and management of processes, procedures and projects.  By offering a combination of consulting, education services, software and best practices in many fields, we aim to provide our clients with an advantage in all aspects of their business operations.

Over several years, 400 projects and 800 plus clients, we have learned a lot about making complex things simple and easy to use. Much of this was due to the consulting heritage of our firm, understanding how processes get communicated and changed for the better.

Simplified Business Process Lifecycle Management (sBPM)

The need for a simpler format has been obvious to many of us for a long time who have spend our careers changing operations. Best Practices in this model are not intended to demean other models in extensive use, but rather (like our TaskMap Simplified Process Mapping system), simplify the starting points and make each step clear to all involved.

The principles include:

  • Simple actionable processes which reflect the way organizations use processes and procedures. Not just focused on automation and non-manual processes
  • The details for each task are contained consisely in each activity. Rules, guidelines, roles, timing,  risks all have a factor in communicating what needs to be done, or improved.
  • Flexible in nature with just a few easy to use symbols making it easy for all participants what is going on.
  • Simple to extend to meet specific methods in use in the organization. e.g. Six Sigma, Lean, Balanced Scorecard etc .
